The ResilientAfrica Network will conduct the first Deliberative Polls in Africa. The partner labs will engage in Deliberative Polling® to assess the informed and representative views of the population in three stages: priorities for resilience challenges, priorities for interventions that would help address those challenges and assessment of the success of those interventions.

There were 18 policy proposals relating to food security and 24 policy proposals relating to WASH. Of the 43 policy proposals between the two topics, all but nine of the policy proposals changed significantly with deliberation. PDF (English) PDF (French)

An initiative has been launched to conduct Deliberative Polling® in Tivaoune Peul, a suburb of Dakar, by a research team from Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD), a network plus partner of the of West Africa Resilience Innovation Laboratory (WARILab) to promote resilience and help bridge the gap between researchers, experts, civil society and communities.

Deliberative Polling® (DP) was held in the Tamale Metropolitan Area of Ghana on January 10-11, 2015. The Tamale Poll is the first of its kind in West Africa and the second in Africa after Uganda’s Mt. Elgon region DP held in July 2014. The DP discussions revolved around challenges related to rapid urbanization. The ResilientAfrica Network is conducting the first Deliberative Polls in Africa.

In Bududa, 15 of the 36 policy options changed significantly with deliberation. The changes were mostly in the direction of increased support for the proposed options. PDF
