In response to the 2014 No.1 Research Program of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, a Deliberative Poll was held at Puxing Sub-district in Pudong New District, Shanghai on May 31st, 2015. Advised by the Center for Comparative Urban Governance (CCUG) at Fudan University, the Deliberative Poll invited ordinary citizens to participate in selecting projects that receive “Neighborhood Committee Self-governance Fund”.
Deliberative Polling® (DP) was held in the Tamale Metropolitan Area of Ghana on January 10-11, 2015. The Tamale Poll is the first of its kind in West Africa and the second in Africa after Uganda’s Mt. Elgon region DP held in July 2014. The DP discussions revolved around challenges related to rapid urbanization. The ResilientAfrica Network is conducting the first Deliberative Polls in Africa.
The first DP in Africa was conducted in July 2014 in Bududa and Butaleja districts of Uganda. The topic was how to deal with the environmental disasters and population pressures that challenge life in these vulnerable communities. In collaboration with our partners at Keio University in Japan, a city-wide Deliberative Poll was conducted in the city of Sapporo, Japan. The Deliberative Polling® event focused on the important issue of snow removal and snow management in the city. Annually, the city of Sapporo experiences one of the highest snowfalls in the world, as such the city faces tough decisions of how to manage snow efficiently and effectively for the safety and livelihood of its residents.
For the first time, the central government introduced Deliberative Polling® to better reflect public opinion in compiling basic policies for nuclear power and other energy sources. The public opinions expressed will be used in deciding basic energy policies.
