Porto Alegre: First Deliberative Poll in Latin America

Consulta Deliberativa The First Brazilian Deliberative Poll took place June 6-7, 2009 in Porto Alegre. The topic was entitled Public Servants Careers Reform and it had very expressive and consistent results. A significant sampling of the Rio Grande do Sul population – coming from all regions of the state, from all social classes, schooling and income levels – came together for two days to discuss, reflect, question experts, express their opinion in an individual and confidential way through an opinion poll questionnaire with a fundamental difference from conventional polling processes: the answers offered by citizens at the end of the process reflect the informed public opinion of Rio Grande do Sul.
